Dr Alex Robinson

Associate at Dehns

London, United Kingdom

About Me

I am a Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney.  Before joining Dehns in 2010 I studied at the University of Oxford, where I was awarded an undergraduate degree in chemistry and a doctorate in biophysical chemistry.

The majority of my patent work relates to physical chemistry/chemical physics and materials science, but I also handle work in the fields of pharmaceuticals (including applications for Supplementary Protection Certificates), polymers, catalysts and medical devices.  My clients range from SME's and university technology transfer offices through to large multinational corporations. In addition to drafting patent applications and coordinating their worldwide prosecution, I also handle Opposition and Appeal work at the European Patent Office and provide opinions on patentability and freedom-to-operate issues.

In addition to my patent work, I take a close interest in wider issues of politics and public policy which impact upon intellectual property, in particular moves towards the establishment of Europe's new Unified Patent Court, and the potential impact of Brexit on intellectual property rights. I have been published widely on these topics and recently joined the editorial team for the biannually-updated Encyclopedia of UK and European Patent Lawbecoming the first patent attorney to serve in this role in the entire 40-year history of the encyclopedia.
